Before deciding on an elder care provider, make sure you ask the right questions. Outlined below is information on home health care services our clients often want to know.
Are you licensed by the state of New Jersey as a health care services agency? |
| |
Yes, Freedom Eldercare is licensed as a Home Health Care Services company, meeting the State’s requirements for home care agencies. We are regulated by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs and Board of Nursing.
Are you a locally owned company or part of a large corporate health care system? |
| |
We are proud to be a locally owned and operated company. We are not part of a large health care system. Our elder care agency caters to the varying home health care and geriatric care management needs of NJ clients. We offer flexible access to our services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
What are your service areas? |
| |
We provide home health care services on an hourly basis throughout northern New Jersey and live-in services throughout the entire State.
Do you offer hourly, overnight and live-in service packages? |
| |
Yes, as a full-service home health care provider, Freedom Eldercare offers customized packages to meet the individual needs of each client—from hourly rates to reduced, flat fees for live-in services.
Do you provide elder care services at locations such as hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living facilities? |
| |
Yes, we often partner with other facility staff to provide complimentary services, whether it involves assisting individuals or couples through their rehabilitation or providing other home health and geriatric care management services.
What are your available office hours? |
| |
For your convenience, Freedom Eldercare is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We are always here to help whether you have a question, concern or immediate need.
Does your agency have a supervisor “on call” after normal business hours? |
| |
Yes, we have both a trained supervisor and Registered Nurse on-call seven days a week, around the clock. You can rest assured that we are here for you when you need us, including holidays and after normal business hours.
Are the caregivers fully employed by your agency? |
| |
Yes, all of our Registered Nurses, Licensed Nurse Practitioners, Home Health Aides, and homemakers are employees of Freedom Eldercare. We take our responsibilities seriously and provide all employee screening, training, insurance, and supervision.
How do you train your employees? |
| |
All of our Home Health Aides are certified by the New Jersey Board of Nursing and are required to attend twelve hours of ongoing continuing education credits each year. These in-service workshops cover topics ranging from elder abuse, domestic violence, home safety, diet/meal preparation, Alzheimer's disease, Universal Precautions, HIPPA, and much more. Freedom Eldercare is a New Jersey licensed Training Center and offers these state approved Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA) training classes throughout the year for both our employees as well as those of our partners.
Do you provide specialized disease management training? |
| |
Yes, we train our caregivers in specialized disease management techniques. Freedom Eldercare employees are specially trained to assist clients with Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, depression, cancer, cardiac, orthopedic and other chronic health care conditions.
Who is responsible for withholding social security, federal, state, and local taxes? |
| |
Since all of our caregivers are fully employed by Freedom Eldercare, we handle all social security, disability and all income tax withholdings. This protects our clients and their families from the burdensome paperwork and tax liabilities they face when hiring someone independently or through a third party employment or brokerage agency.
Do you do criminal background checks on all of your employees? |
| |
Yes, once an applicant completes the first stage of the interview process, a check on the current status of their license and a criminal background records check are attained from the NJ State Board of Nursing (where these documents are kept on file). The employment process cannot and does not continue unless, and until these documents are verified. Additionally, all Freedom care providers are legal residents of this country and provide the necessary three pieces of documentation to verify this status as required by the I9 form.
In the event a caregiver is hurt on the job, who is responsible for worker’s compensation coverage? |
| |
We fully employ all of our caregivers and cover their worker’s compensation insurance. This protects you from the liabilities and tedious paperwork you would face if hiring someone independently or through a brokerage agency. And since most homeowner's policies do not cover injury to workers in your home, it eliminates that liability as well.
Do you bond and provide professional liability insurance for your employees? |
| |
Since all of our caregivers are fully employed by Freedom Eldercare, each is individually insured through our professional liability insurance policy and fully bonded for your peace of mind and protection.
What type of information is available to the client and his/her family about the care he or she receives? |
| |
All Freedom Eldercare employees are required to follow a nurse’s care plan and must formally record their daily activities. A record of this daily log is always left with the client. Your aide will document a description of all services provided, including dates and times. This confidential information can only be viewed by the client and/or client’s family.
Do you schedule the same caregiver for each visit? |
| |
Yes, we do our best to schedule the same caregiver. We believe in building relationships and providing continuity of care. This is especially important for those clients where we provide long-term, live-in care.
Can I change my caregiver? |
| |
Yes, you can request a caregiver change at any time. All you have to do is let us know and we will take care of the rest.
Do I need to sign a contract? |
| |
After the initial assessment, if you decide to retain our services, we will clearly outline the care plan in a Service Agreement. This agreement ensures that everyone involved has a clear understanding of the care that we will provide.
Are the terms of your agreement long-term or flexible? |
| |
There is no long-term commitment or contract required with Freedom Eldercare. Due to the nature of our services, we offer flexible terms of agreement that only require 48-hour advance notice for any changes or cancellations.
How often do you bill for your service? |
| |
We bill twice a month, every other Friday. We bill for the preceding two weeks of service and all invoices are itemized by date and time of service, ensuring you only pay for services already rendered.
Is the care tax deductible? |
| |
In certain cases, the cost of care may be tax deductible. Since individual situations vary, be sure to consult your accountant.
Is there a required period of time you must commit to services? |
| |
