CHHA Qualifications

The New Jersey Board of Nursing establishes the curriculum for the Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA) training course. It consists of a 76 hour core curriculum, 60 hours of classroom instruction and 16 hours of clinical training in a skills laboratory.

  • Body systems and related care
  • Dementia/Alzheimer's disease
  • Home care considerations
  • Mental illness/developmental disabilities
  • Personal care of adults
  • Role of the aide in nursing care settings
  • Safety in home
  • Time management
  • Ability to read and write English
  • Age 18 years or older
  • Completed Home Health Aide training course application
  • Payment of the $150 course fee prior to the first day of class
  • Personal interview with a Freedom Eldercare training supervisor
  • U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the United States
  • Able to accept supervision
  • Emotional maturity
  • Flexibility
  • Genuine concern for the elderly
  • Good communication skills
  • Good personal hygiene
  • Reliability
  • Tolerant of differences in others
  • Willing to give of oneself
